Duncan Electronics' NCAPS (Non-Contacting Angular Position
Sensor), the latest in steering sensor and rotary position
sensing solutions, has been selected as one of fifty
finalists in Product Design and Development (PD&D)
magazine's Seventh Annual Engineering Award Competition
(see December 2001 issue).
To
be eligible, products had to be available for purchase
between October 2000 and August 2001. Nominations for
the awards competition were accepted through August
15, 2001. The contest, open to all design engineers
and engineering teams working in the United States,
awards a total of $5,000 in prizes. The Gold Award is
$2,500; the Silver, $1,500; and the Bronze, $1,000.
In addition, winners receive a custom-designed crystal
globe - a symbol of how engineering can improve the
world. The winners, selected by PD&D readers, will
be announced during National Manufacturing Week in March
in Chicago and showcased in the May issue of Product
Design and Development.
Incorporating
patent pending technology, NCAPS offers an extremely
clever adaptation of transceiver technology and digital
signal processing techniques while using a combination
of well proven and durable materials in a thin package
size (less than 12 mm). NCAPS features mechanical memory
at start-up and does not require electronic memory or
a re-set function, unlike other sensing systems that
cannot detect absolute position at power on. The new
device is fully non-contacting and measures angular
position over a full 360° range with +/- 1.5% absolute
linearity.
