July 23, 2001 - Offering a fully non-contacting
angular position sensor, BEI Duncan Electronics introduces
the latest in steering sensor and rotary position sensing
solutions. Non-Contacting Angular Position Sensor
has been developed by BEI Technologies to provide a
cost effective, high-resolution rotary position sensor.
Initially developed for steering angle applications,
Non-Contacting Angular Position Sensor is also ideally suited to a wide range of applications
in a number of markets including automotive, heavy equipment,
marine, instrumentation, industrial automation and robotics.
Incorporating patent pending technology, Non-Contacting Angular Position Sensor offers
an extremely clever adaptation of transceiver technology
and digital signal processing techniques while using
a combination of well proven and durable materials in
a thin package size (less than 12 mm). Non-Contacting Angular Position Sensor features
mechanical memory at start-up and does not require electronic
memory or a re-set function, unlike other sensing systems
that cannot detect absolute position at power on. The
new device is fully non-contacting and measures angular
position over a full 360° range with +/- 1.5% absolute
linearity.
Other
outstanding features include a wide range of gear reduction
and multiplication options allowing for multiple turns.
Non-Contacting Angular Position Sensor is tolerant to shaft misalignment/endplay and
can be packaged in through-hole, shaft drive and satellite
gearing configurations. This non-contacting technology
offers a wide variety of packaging sizes, some as small
as 37 mm in diameter. The standard output is pulse width
modulation (PWM) based on discrete surface mounted components,
with analog voltage as an option. Non-Contacting Angular Position Sensor is available
for ASIC development depending on production volume,
packaging and output requirements. As production volumes
allow, BEI Duncan Electronics can offer custom packaging
engineering expertise to develop a unique Non-Contacting Angular Position Sensor solution
to suit highly specific non-contacting sensor requirements
.
Use
of this sensor can significantly reduce packaging problems,
as well as weight and power consumption requirements.
Non-Contacting Angular Position Sensors can be tailored to meet desired electrical
and mechanical characteristics to exactly profile unique
application requirements.
